Welcome

Welcome to the Global Network of Black People working in HIV, GNBPH.  We are glad you are here.

GNBPH is the premier association of black people working in HIV worldwide.

Founded in 2014, GNBPH‘s mission is to assemble black people worldwide working in the field of HIV – to innovate, to invigorate, to maintain and to sustain an effective global response to HIV and AIDS.  GNBPH is dedicated to strengthening the global and local response to HIV through the provision of culturally competent professional peer-based support, education and training programs and services, policy development and advocacy guidance, workforce development, clinical practices and clinical research, facilitated cross country and community collaborations and inter and intra-discipline exchanges. The GNBPH network communicates through social media, e-newsletters, blogs, printed materials, conferences, workshops, webinars and conference call. The GNBPH membership of black professionals, black and African organizations, affinity groups and allies confronts HIV by sharing science driven, evidence-based methods to manage and improve the delivery of HIV services. The GNBPH community collaborates on innovative and tested intervention strategies, identifying long lasting solutions to common and unique challenges impacting the HIV workforce, and HIV epidemic overall, globally and domestically.

Through GNBPH, there are countless opportunities for Black people working in HIV today to come together, support one another and contribute to long lasting solutions, technologies and tools – far more opportunities than ever before.  There are many more options for biomedical, socio-cultural, political, economic, legal and structural interventions; and opportunities for workforce development in prevention, care and treatment program implementation schemes requiring an educated and experienced staff.  Additionally, the tools and technologies at our disposal, including new testing algorithms, ARV based clinical regimes, and biomedical prevention services, are greatly improved over those available for HIV testing, prevention and treatment just a few short years ago.  Things are better in the field and practice of HIV. It is an exciting time for Black People working in HIV and for GNBPH.

Join us.  Membership in GNBPH provides you with myriad opportunities to meet others and to learn from a global community of black people with similar experiences, interest, expertise and energy.  It is a very good time to organize the collective expertise, experience and energy of Black People to the global epidemic response.  As GNBPH grows and expands the membership, GNBPH will maintain its membership-focus, adapting to the demands of being a global network. Motivated by the needs of a diverse network of black people working in all capacities in the HIV epidemic response, GNBPH strives to keep members up to date with evidence-based and scientifically relevant information, data and content in the context of the global response.

We would like to give you an idea of what you can expect in the months and years to come, and what we hope to achieve over the next two years (2015-2016).  Our first goal is to recruit members from across the globe.  You can help by joining, and asking your friends and colleagues to join. The GNBPH membership fee will be waived for those who join between December 1, 2014 and February 28, 2015.  After that date membership in GNBPH will be $20 for persons from high income countries and $10 for persons from low income countries.  Secondly, you can contribute HIV related updates, share information and exchange materials through the website. GNBPH welcomes content from its members and upon review, will post member content in the share and exchange folder. Additionally, GNBPH will work with members from various regions to develop and host webinars, etc.  Thirdly, as a member you can identify and recommend opportunities for outreach and recruitment, specifically regional conferences, meetings and seminars.  GNBPH will support members who engage in outreach and recruitment activities.  Finally, you can attend and participate in GNBPH sponsored programs, conference calls and conferences.  Together we have the potential to greatly influence the global response to the HIV epidemic.  GNBPH looks forward to building the network with you and to supporting the work of Black People working in HIV worldwide.

Thank you for considering joining GNBPH and for your willingness to bring your experience, expertise and energy to our new global network. You, as someone working in HIV, know how important it is to come together as a collective to address the challenges of HIV.  As workers in the field of HIV, you also have vision, knowledge, and experience to help GNBPH pave its way into the future. You are truly one of the most important assets in the global response to HIV, and GNBPH cannot accomplish what we strive to do without your engagement and support. Given that the greatest number of persons living with HIV are black people (of black African descent) an organization that brings together black professionals working in HIV is uniquely positioned to address the needs of black people worldwide living with or at risk of infection of HIV. Join the global call for a cure.

We look forward to getting to know you, and thank you in advance for joining GNBPH.

Sincerely,

GNBPH Charter Members – Your Global Colleagues
